Isoodon fusciventer
Nyungar: quenda
Quenda provide a range of benefits to the corridor ecosystems by moving four ton of soil each per year, improving soil drainage, dispersing seeds and aiding decomposition of vegetation. These actions can reduce fuel loads and possibly the risk of fire. Quenda are omnivorous but they dig up and eat the ‘truffles’ of the underground mycorrhizal fungi so essential for many species to access water and nutrients. Quenda scats were shown to have spores from 45 species of fungi helping to disperse them to new hosts. WA Quenda are a unique species of Southern Brown Bandicoot and are found throughout the corridor.
