Chalinolobus gouldii
Noongar: babitj
This common species of microbat is seldom seen as it roosts in tree hollows during the day and is active at night. The body of the bat is only about the size of a mouse. The Beeliar Woodlands near the wetlands is a good location for these insectivorous bats, whose diet is chiefly moths. Loss of mature trees with hollows is a threat to microbats and bat boxes have been installed in the corridor to provide additional roosting options.
